It was so easy in Access 97. Well, a little convoluted, but it worked as expected.

But I am going nuts in Access 2000 trying to use the User-Level Security Wizard. I'm following the instructions exactly, but...

When I open my newly secured database and start tinkering with the groups and permissions using the regular interface (not the wizard), things are screwed up. I always end up not being able to change the permissions or owner for Forms or Reports, even when logged in as a member of the Admins Group. And things that I do set seem to, well...get messed up.

Is this a big old BUG, or is there some trick I am missing?

This has been doing this to me on two different computers, and multiple trials.

Anybody been able to work this successfully?

Okay, I'm making progress. I ran the wizard one more time, and I noticed this:

Everything but Forms, Reports, and Macros get the owner changed to Administrator. Forms, Reports and Macros remain as owner Admin.

Also, the Admins Group has no rights on Forms, Reports, or Macros. While the Users group has full administrative rights to them, and no rights to the others, Tables, Queries, etc.

I don't know why it does this, but okay...

So if I transfer the owner for Forms, Reports, and Macros to Administrator before blowing away the rights to the Users group, then it seems to straighten it out.

Still don't understand how there was a pitfall where I could end up with no users or groups having Admin rights to these objects, but I managed to do it several times!
