Access 2000 Runtime Mystery!

I installed access 2000 runtime on my laptop alongside Access 2003 I have a database that was created in Access 2000. When I run the database with the runtime environment, evreything works except the reports they all crash msaccess.exe. I thought there may be a conflict with running the full office with the runtime so installed the runtime on a pc without office, however I get the same results, all of the reports crash msaccess.exe

I have discussed this with a view like minded access developers but cannot seem to resolve this mysterious issue. The whole focus was around print drivers and personally I think this is a red herring.

Has anybody seen this before and/or solved it themselves?

have you tried using different print drivers? is it still doing the same thing?

have you tried to debug the crash? use error handling to output the error code, what do you get?

I wonder if your reports have a printer saved with them instead of pointing to the default printer.

The easiest thing to do would be to open it in Access 2003 (you could use Access 2000 but you said it has 2003 on it) on the offending machine and open each report and save it (barring any unusual filters you would not want to save). This would change all the printers to default (assuming the same printer is not installed on that machine). If it is a print driver, this should fix it.

Hi all,

I am revisiting this as I have still not found a resolution. I only had 5 reports in the database.

This is what I did... I deleted all of the reports and changed my default printer from UTAX CD1030 to Xerox 7400N I then ran the report wizard creating a very simple report, I checked to ensure that the page setup showed default printer. I linked it in to the switchboard and created a button on a form. and tested it the report ran ok.

I opened the database in Access 2000 runtime, I navigated through the switchboard to the report and ran it the application just crashed. I tried various scenario's and really am at a loss, every aspect of the database works but reports, I have tried setting my default printer to an HP 4000 also. I tried the runtime and database on 2 other PCs both with different printers. I think I have completely exhausted the printer theory.

Can any one think of anything else worth trying?

Does the application work if you open it on Access 2003 on the machine in question?

The runtime may fall into the install order that is required for office versions... Install the earliest first and newer versions in a different folder.

Why is it you want the runtime on a computer with access installed?

I installed the runtime on a PC that had a new XP installation. because ideally i want users to be able to use a database without having to fork out for Access.

Just to be clear... it still does not work when the only version of Access installed is the runtime?

That is correct.. I put the Database on a clean installed machine with Access 2000 Runtime and I still have the same problem.

Are you sure the MDB is in 2000 format?

Have you installed all possible patches using Microsoft update?

Yes the DB is in 2000 format, I created it in 2003 but saved it as a 2000 DB. When I open it in 2003 in design view the window shows Access 2000 format
