On my 6408D+ phones, I have configured the first four abbrv dial buttons to use various features. The fourth button, AD4, dials our helpdesk using the system abbrv dial list and a dialcode w/in that list. My problem lies not within the functionality of this button, but with the fact that it displays as 'AD4' on the phones.

Is there a way to change the labeling from 'AD4' to say 'Help'?

Yes - Your switch must be a release 6.3 or later. The following is from the Avaya Admin and Features Manual:

Users of the 8400- and 6400- series display phones can customize the display labels for Abbreviated Dialing buttons. Messages appear on the display to guide users thru the programming of AD numbers and softkey labels. For this feature to work, the speaker must be activated on the phone, and the switch software must be R6.3 or later. To program a softkey button, the user:

1. Press the button labeled Prog, or select Prog from the softkey menu. The message "Press button to program" appears on the display.
2. Select the softkey/feature button to program.
3. The message "Change number? Yes=1 No=2" appears.
4. Press 1 to enter a new number or change an existing one, or 2 to skip this step and move on to programming the label.
5. Enter the number for this AD button.
6. Press # to save the number. Confirmation tone is heard. The message "Change label? Yes=1 No=2" appears.
7. Press 1 to change the label or 2 to skip this step. If you press 1 the message "Enter label" appears.
8. Enter the label (up to five characters) using the dial pad. Press the * key to accept the letter and move on to the next space. Pressing # accepts the entire label. The message "Label saved" appears.

If the user makes a mistake while programming, the only way to correct it is to press # to save and start over.

I know this works as I have used it in the past.

Thanks OPG. You gave me directions on how to change the number and label for personal abrv dial lists. I can do this, but using the ASA tool I changed each users AD4 button to a system abrv dial list that references a dialcode which dials an internal extension. I did it this way to avoid walking to each phone and programming manually.

Even when I try to change the label by on AD4 manually, it will not work.

This may be a labor intensive way of doing it, but go back to your translations and reprogram the AD buttons for a personal list. This will allow you to go onto each phone and change the label (it offers you the change number option first which is what you can't get by to change the label). Then go back and reprogram the buttons for the system list. Your labels should stay on your phone.
