a00084af - The directory or file was not found, or could not be access

Can any one help me answer this question. I am running Backupexec 9.1 on 2000 server and trying to backup an Oracle db which is on 2003 server. I keep getting this "a00084af - The directory or file was not found, or could not be accessed" error. I am trying to work along with the Oracle dba and I do not see any problem from his side. I was able to backup with out using the Oracle agent successfully. However, in this environment we need to bacup with the agent. Well, I have seen Veritas' solution, i.e it look like the problem is related to OFO. But I was able to run full backup using OFO!! It is just as soon as I use the Oracle agent I get this error. Any body who can suggest me, I would appreciate it very much.

I never use any backup software's database agent. Have the database make it's own backup, then copy that to archives.

Frequently those Agents will backup without problems, but then won't restore correctly. If Oracle makes it's own backup, you can be assured it will restore that without error.

Jgame, I ran into the same problem and worked with Veritas on the issue. I could get the backup to work but could not get the restore to work. Support wasn't any help. They actually cased the case without resolving. Which I plan on calling and re-opening. The only way I could get the restore to work was to use File redirection. This wasn't any good because this changes the restore to include the path name in the database name and doesn't overwrite the current database. We changed some information in the current database and after the restore noticed that nothing was changed. When we browsed in the location of the database we saw a file that included the drive letter in the name of the restored file. So it doesnt see it as a database if you use file redirection to do the restore.

Lawnboy, I get what you are saying about having the database to back itself up. Which we do at this time but I would still like to be able to use the Backup Exec Agent to backup and restore this database. I would think that someone out there has gotten this to work or those of us that paid for the Oracle Agent have wasted our money. Which could be the case. Seems like I get better support from Netbackup techs than Backup Exec techs.

We were finally able to get the Oracle agent to work successfully to do a backup and a restore. I would use the System account within oracle to backup and restore the database or have your DBA to create an account within Oracle that has rights to do this. This will require the following: Connect, Select Any Table, Alter Database, Alter TableSpace, Alter System, Alter Rollback Segment. Once this account is setup put the account and the password in the Backup Agent Config on the Oracle Server. You should be able to connect and backup the database with no errors. The problem we were having dealt with doing a restore. We solved this by choosing file redirection in the restore options. Once the files on Oracle are restored though, the names are changed to protect a production database from being overwritten by mistake. An offline restore is required. Stop the Agent on the Oracle Server. Run the restore. To make the redirected database work, you have to stop the Oracle services, copy the restored files into the db directory where they belong. Rename the files to their appropriate name and restart the oracle services.

You can also change the registry on the Oracle server to leave the file name intact if you arent worried about mistakely overwritten a production database. Hkey_local_machine\software\veritas\backup exec oracle agent. Add value, value name is NoUniqueDataFile, select REG_DWord as the data type. Click ok, Enter 1 as the Data, the Radix as Decimal. Stop and Restart the Oracle Agent Service.
