I am not having a good day. on win95 pc's when i try and open my app i get a message "required dll is missing" it gives me no name of the file. it works perfect in 2000. i created the app using VB on a 2000 pc. what file could be missing??

I am just using ADO to connect to a sql server...I think DCOM98 has been installed...what else is there?

Thanks

Use Microsoft's dependency walker to find which DLLs your app uses, then check to see which one is missing on the target system.

Since it seems to be related to ADO, you can try intstalling the latest MDAC. It may take care of the problem.

I installed mdac 2.6 for 95 and still no luck,...I keep getting a required dll function is missing...I ran a dependency report and checked if all the files were on the pc and they where. what the heck could be wrong??

Could it be that one or more of the dll files are present but not registered? In my case, I have an app that uses an ACCESS database containing 2 linked fox pro "tables". The dll was present but not registered.
It appears that MDAC2.6 no longer supports some of the older dlls.
I really do not know the reason the dll would be present without being registered, however. I just know it happened once Terry (cyberbiker)

so, your saying i should register the dll's that are in my dependency list?? and why would it work with 2000??

As to why it worked on 2000, I can only guess that the dlls were registered and yes, I am suggesting that you try to register the dlls. I have seen this happen several times.
There may be (and probably are) other causes. But if installing MDAC does not work, I would try it. If it works, let me know and I will pat myself on the back. If not let me know and I will try to blame the tip on someone else :) Terry (cyberbiker)
