I have created a database and it all seems to work ok apart from a form. I have a room category form which has a button on it linking to the room form. When I click the button to go to the room form I get the error message:

"Microsoft Office Access can't find the field '|' referred to in your expression."

I then click ok and everything still seems to work, so I am puzzled by the message.

Thanks for any help

I would check several places -

It could be a field on the second form. Check in the design view of form two. Is there a field that has a typo in it - probably a field that uses an expression - like "format$" or "Trim" or "Count".

But it could be somewhere in the properties dialog of the second form. Look to see if there's anything odd in any of the fields under "data".

You could check the VBA behind the button to see if there's something strange about the link criteria, but I doubt that's it since you say it's working properly.

Thanks for the suggestions,

I have checked the items you said but I can't see any typos. Not sure about expressions?. Also I didn't notice anything odd in the fields under data but I wasn't sure what to look for. As for checking the VBA? behind the button, I have no idea how to this because...

Just to give a bit more info. I am new to using Access and it is a pretty basic database with only four tables. It is the first database I have made so I only really know how to use the basic functions of the program.

With reference to the two forms, when I open them seperatley, no error message appears. The error message only appears when I click the button on the first form to link to the second.

Any chance you could post the corresponding code ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

As I say in my previous post, I am new to using access so I only know how to use the basic functions of Access and know nothing about code etc.

I can only post the corresponding code if you explain how to do this.

Sorry for the lack of technical knowledge but I am new to using this.

How you did it ?

To create the form I just clicked on the forms section in Access and then created a form using the wizard; selected the fields from the two tables, continued through the wizard and it did it automatically. I have not used any code as I don't really know what it is or how to use it?

Is the forms based on a query?
Check the properties/data/record source to see.
It may be the query which is causing you the problem.

No it is not linked to a query. The forms are just linked to the corresponding tables.
