I have a mystery I cannot solve. I have an HP Photosmart P1100 printer that will no long print large files (I'm sure it did in the past, but it doesn't now. Any file under this size prints fine.)

My system specs are a Dell Dimension 450mhz, 256 mb ram and a 27 gb harddrive running Win98SE.

When I use any tool to print a file somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000kb I get an error message like this: "There was an error writing to DOT4_001 for the printer HP PhotoSmart series. There was a problem printing to the printer due to an unknown system error. Restart Windows and then try printing again." Trying again after a restart yields the same error.

Here is what I have done:
I have uninstalled the printer software and reinstalled it. I have downloaded the latest version of the drivers from HP, uninstalled the printer software and installed the new.
I have changed the printer from printing via the parallel port to the USB port.
I have changed the spool settings for the printer to every conceivable combination.
I have run Norton Utility WinDoctor against my system and it does not find any errors. I have also scanned for virus' using the latest definitions for PC-cillin.

And all to no avail. Does anyone have a suggestion for me??

Apparently this is not a hardware problem but a software problem. When I print my large photo from ACDSee it fails but if I print it from Photoshop it prints fine.
Mystery solved!!
