If I create a win32 Application in Visual C++ 6.0, would it be a standalone EXE file. I mean do I still need to build a setup routine.

Yes and No. it won't need any MFC dll's, but it will need
the Run-time libraries (i.e. MSVCRT*.lib,dll). I do not
know about the setup routine, it depends where you want
to deploy and what is the expected setup of those machines
