When on the internet running Explorer 6.0 I get this message at different times.

A Fatal Exception OE has occurred at 0028:FF07F11B.
The current app. will be terminated.

Everything locks and I have to reset the computer. I'm running Win98, Gigabyte GA-8IHXP, 1024MB rambos ram, 2-120 GIG HD, Cable modem, and mostly USB Components.
I can't find any reference to the 0028:FF07F11B on Microsoft web site.

Any help would be appreciated!

Howdy:

Is that the entire error message or did you miss the part under "details" ??

Murray

I'm not getting any details! That's why I'm so confused?? Normally I can resolve these issues but this one has me stumped!

Okay.. You may have to click the "details" tab if there is one.

Did this start happening shortly after you upgraded to IE6??

Murray

To answer you honestly I'm not sure! I just upgraded my motherboard and cpu and re-loaded everything fresh! Then when on the internet for long periods or having multiple windows it crashes and gives me this message! I'm also running memturbo and no matter how many of my programs are shut down my free ram memory still stays around 805. I'm just not sure if it is a memory problem or Explorer.

Well, the 0028 start normally indicates memory: installed or virtual..

Double check your memory chips.. make sure they are well seated.. Then, check your virtual mem settings..

Murray

Any anti-virus software? McAfee VirusScan can generate these errors unless you install the latest hotfix.

memory chips are seated correctly.

Here are my settings.......
Virtual memory minimum & max 2048
System.ini = Chunk = 16384
OldMinFileCach = 49152
OldMaxFileCach = 228352
All Norton Virus software is unloaded and I was running Norton Systemworks 2003.

One point is that 1024mb is wasted in 98 as this OS can only use 512. Large amounts of mem like this can cause problems such as you describe.

Reduce to 512 and try again.

I reduced to 512mb of but still have this problem.
But would I be better off by upgrading to Windows 2000 Pro to get better memory usage?

The main problem I have is I have 1 stinking dos program that I have to use to make my job easier! Windows XP won't run it. Also should I upgrade Win98 or do a fresh install? I can set it up temporally as a dual boot system so I don't have any downtime during the transition.

Win 2000 would certainly use the extra mem and is without doubt a better OS than 98. Having upgraded and fresh installed on lots of machines, I'd ALWAYS fresh install. On a number f different machines in our office upgrades always had problems (too numerous to mention), clean install and they performed correctly.

Not sure abour compatibility of DOS apps under 2000
