Can someone explain how to disable the A:\ in Win2000 apart from using hardware profiles? Lamaar75@hotmail.com

If you enter properties for the Floppy in My Computer. Select the Hardware tab & Highlight Floppy drive in window and click Properties button. In pull down menu for "Device Usage" the device can be disabled.

If this is not what you were thinking of you may want to poke around User Policies and Rights. Floppy access should be around though i only took a quick look around Local Security Policy under Administrative Tools.

Good Luck. -md

Also - there's a way to make only the Administrator able to access the floppy drive.

Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

AllocateFloppies is type REG_SZ
0 (default) Floppy disks in the floppy disk drive can be accessed by all administrators in the domain.
1 Only the user logged on locally can access data on the floppy disks in the floppy disk drive.

Note: Since the Floppy is a volume, it has an administrative share. Setting this entry to 1 makes the share unavailable while the current user is logged on.
