I have one machine where the A drive is continually being read - regardless of whether or not a disk is in place. Someone told me it's probably Norton Antivirus just doing a routine check, however these routine checks are happening too frequently for what I would call routine. In just the last half hour, it ran 5 times. I've shut down a couple of times during these and a message came up stating that another user is connected to your computer, continuing to shut down would disable them, do you want to continue and I continue with the shut down process. I've seen this message several other times - once with the message that "2 users" connected.

Any Suggestions?
thx.

That message is often when another user on the network has a mapped drive that points to a share on your machine. Do you have a share on your machine that other network users have mapped to a drive letter?

As for the floppy drive activity- this could be caused by a number of things, including physical memory and virtual memory as well as virus scanners or a shortcut in the start menu that points to the A: drive. You'll have to be more specific about what's going on when it occurs.

Do you have microsoft office installed? Fast Find can cause this issue. John D. Saucier

I agree - Find Fast is the biggest (somewhat hidden) waste of resources MS has ever created.

yeah if you have fast find installed, remove it. It is not useful and is a major resource hog. John D. Saucier
