I want to reinstall windows 98 and do a full reformatt of my HD i got the directions on how to do it from the FAQ section in windows 2000 this is my first time doing a reinstall and format of windows so im kinda new to it. My question is does all my drivers get a generic driver till i find the good one for them so the computer is runnable with out all the drivers and i have a cd burner and i was wondering if there is a easy way to copy my hole HD to a disk like is there a zipped way or something b/c i have about 6 gb of stuff on there thats everything and is there away to get all the drivers i need from program files or something while my computer is still the way it is so i dont have to go on the internet and download them??? i kinda want to get this all done today its 11:40 am here i have a couple hours to get done

well i think thats about all Thanks in advance

Joshs328,

Win98 will install dirvers that are contained in its driver database. If you have a device that Win98 does not have a driver for, it will not instal the device. Your video card will get generic drivers. I suggest locating, downloading, and storing all the drivers for your devices before you reload.

As for backing up all your data, yes, there are many programs that allow you to backup straight to a CDR. Ghost is one of them. You can also search your favorite shareware site for backup programs.

Hope this helps. Have fun

thanks ghost is from Norton right??? and for backing up the drivers if i just find the program folder on my c drive and copy all them to a disk does the folder contain the drivers or is there a certin place to look for them like c:windows??? or something like that???? and ill check on nero to see if i can back up my HD using something they have in there.

Thanks Redtech

FAQ748-1599, My FAQ in Windows ME, 98, 95 FORUM. Your computer will probably load a basic video driver so that you can start loading software, you might get your sound driver installed natively with Windows. Mine Does., but Network and Modem you will probably have to do yourself.

Do you have the back-up CD's that came with your computer. They should have all the neccessary drivers you need (if your computer is OEM).

Hope this helps!
