_WA_Sys..... mysterious indexes 1

Does anyone know why seemingly system generated indexes appear magically in my tables?
For example, we have a table named Position. We created one primary key index on this table named XPKPosition but when I view the indexes using Enterprise Manager, I see 2 indexes:
XPKPosition
_WA_Sys_ShortName_13BCEBC1

 

[foxdev]

These are pseudo-indexes created automatically by SQL Server to optimize particular queries by creating statistics samples.
