9i client with a 8i database?

Hi, will a 9i client interface with a 8i database? We will be upgrading our database soon, but I need to roll out some desktops in the meantime,... It would save me time if I could use the 9i client.

Yse, but don't forget to add an appropriate TNS_ALIAS to sql*net file.

Dima..Please explain that alias comment..

SqlNet.ora and tnsnames.ora do not need any structural changes and SqlNet.ora needs no changes at all when connnecting from the 9i client to a 8i database...An entry in tnsnames.ora is needed , of course, for any new instance regardless of version.

They do need when you install a new client You may find here dozens of problems related to multiple ORACLE_HOMEs installed on the same box as well as problems with freshly intalled software.
