98 workstations do not show up in Server Mgr

I have NT 4.0 servers with 98 machines as clients. How do I get the 98 machines to show up in Server Manager?

If they are logged onto the domain they should show up as Windows Workstations. This is not happening. Are they logging on to the domain. James Collins

All clients are logging on to the domain. Also, server manager is set to show servers and workstations in the domain.

But server manager does not see the Win98 clients? How many authentication servers are you running. The 98 machines that do not logon using that machine for authentication, is it feesable that they do not show up there then since that machine did not authenticate them? I am guessing on that. I under stand thats what replication is for. But server Manager may just show machines that have connected to it that day (via login, browser elections, or mapped drives/ network share access) I know that some 98 machines that loose the browser election will show up.

We have 3 authentication servers running. I didn't think it mattered which server authenticated a client for it to show up in server manager. Server manager shows all machines on the domain, in NT anyway.

I was trying to see what machines existed on the network. I'm really an NT person, so I was expecting pretty much the same behavior with 98, but I'm finding that there are few similarities between the two. I was told that because the clients are running 98, I wouldn't see them listed in server manager. Just wanted to know if anyone else could verify that.

There are occassions you should see them under server manager. As I stated earlier. But as for just showing up I dont think they will do that. If you wnat to see what machines are on the network, I suggest Microsoft SMS. It tells what machines are on the network along with what hardware and OS level is in them. James Collins

I am almost positive that only NT worksations will show up in server manager. To see the 98 workstations you must go to the Network Neigborhood. Go to Entire Network then Microsoft Windows Network.

Actually Win98 PCs can show in Server Manager if they lost a Browser election or they logged onto that server. I see them here. They show up as Workstations running Windows 98 James Collins
