This is a weird one, I got 98 SE, this is more or less a fresh installation

The following icons look as if the colours have been inverted...

My Computer
My Documents
Internet Explorer
Documents
Settings
Find
Help
Run
Shut Down
Kazaa Lite "My Shared Folder"

They all appear to be system shortcuts

Every other icon on my desktop and in the start menu is fine

However imagine my surprise to see PINK notepad file icons!! (Normally should be white)

Completely Pink and like an effigy surrounding them!

I don't really want my Girlfriend to see my pink icons to be honest!

Seriously though it all happened after a restart of my PC

I have latest:

DirectX 9.0a
Detonator Drivers for NVIDIA Geforce 2 MX 400

Running True Colour 16 bit 800 x 600 screen res

Monitor is detected and driver installed

My previous installation of 98 SE on my old HDD had no problems handling my screen settings and resolution, so I was wondering if it is a dodgy reg key I dunno

Any help would be appreciated or i'll have to accept me Pink icons!

Thanks

Jamie

find and delete the file shelliconcache and delete it, windows will rebuild it on the next boot

Thanks for the reply but I have found the mystical setting!!...

Right click on desktop > Properties > "Effects" tab > disable "Show icons using all possible colours"

I unchecked, rebooted and back to normal!!, it's not a coincidence because I rebooted several times

I thought i'd update so it helps troubleshoot in the future

Im gonna miss my Pink icons NOT!

Cheers

Jamie

There is a number of things to try

Firstly click on "Start" and go to "Find" > "Files or Folders", Now search for a file called "ShellIconCache" Note it has no file extention. Now delete it and restart the computer. This is a way of rebuilding the Icon Cache.

or

Get a copy of TweakUI (Do a google search)
Install it, now look through the tabs (I think it is on the REPAIR tab/page) and select "Repair Icon Cache" or similar!
This should have the same effect. It not then try reinstalling the SHELL32.DLL file off of the CD. Most of the icons mentioned are in there (except Notepad and Kazaa)
