My Windows 98 will not load correctly. I have used my boot disk and tried to reinstall 98 from my Program CD that came with the computer. When 98 tries to reinstall I get a MSGSRV32 error and it locks up on me. Do i need to uninstall 98 before reinstalling over it. I cannot get windows 98 to load to be able to uninstall 98.

Were you having problems efore you started installing 98 again? You could have a problem with RAM. James Collins

Not that i know of. How could i tell if RAM is my problem. I have 128 mg installed and the memory check always shows it available

If you can acquire a boot disk with himem.sys on it loaded in config.sys, you might have a better shot knowin if there is a memory problem. Himem has a more thorough memory test than POST. Ed Fair

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply.

Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

Are you getting a lot of invalid page faults or windows protection errors? Is your RAM 1 stick of 128 or 2 sticks of 64? if its the latter then take one out and try again. Then replace with other and try. James Collins

fritz, i have a completely diffent option for you to try.

This issue can occur if your computer uses a sound card or a modem that is based on the C-Media CMI8330 sound chip. This sound chip is used as the basis for several sound cards, and is also used with some modems.

To resolve this issue, contact the manufacturer of your sound card or modem to inquire about the availability of an updated driver for your sound card or modem. But should you be unable to contact the manufacturer of your sound card, you can try to use the C-Media Windows 98 sound card driver version 4.10.00.0152 or later. This driver is available on the following C-Media Web site:
Let me know if this helped. Good Luck! -md

If you are having a modem (obviously u have that), try removing the modem ... then install Win98 .. Then reinsert the modem card. I have faced this type of problem and solved in this said manner. SOme times, modem addresses/mouse addresses etc clash and the win98 while loading display message server error.

Best of luck ! ramani :-9
