in my database, i am daily deleting and importing tables. i desperately need to compact!

i am using Access97. i can easily go to Tools, Database Utilities, Compact Database, but i want to happen when i close my form.

i don't want the name of the database to change and i want to do it while the database is open.

is this possible?

wow, that download seems perfect.

It says: "Make sure that you read the AppNotes first" but when i click on the AppNotes hyperlink, i get "this page cannot be displayed". are the AppNotes important? do you know/remember?

uh oh, when i try to use the add-in, i get a message "invalid database name. compactor will terminate."

First i downloaded and unzipped the compactor.mda file. then, i opened my database, selected File, Get External Data, Import. then i chose the compactor.mda file and chose 'Select all'.

so it added some modules, macros and a form to my database.

but, closing and then re-opening the database causes the error message.

did i do something wrong? i have never used an add-in before.

To use an add-in, you must copy the compactor.mda file to your \program files\microsoft office\office\addins\ directory. Then go to Tools...AddIns and you will see a list of available addins, including Add-In Manager. Choose Add-In Manager and click on the compactor addin.

Click on Tools...AddIns again and the compactor should show up in the available add-in list.

Let me know if you need more.
