We are running Communication Manager R15. We have 9650 sets. We have an issue with the contact list function of the 9650 sets. Here are the details. If a call comes into your phone, the caller ID shows up in the call log. You can press “call” from the call log and the system will dial the number, adding the 9 automatically. If you then add a call log entry and to your contact list, then press “call” from the contact list screen, the system is not able to complete the call because the contact list will not add the 9. If you down load your contacts from Outlook to your phone, again, the system is not able to complete the call because the contact list will not add the 9.

Looking at the XXXX.txt file which contains the various settings for the 9650 phone we do see an entry for enhanced dialing from the call log list. This is where the phone knows to add the 9 when calling from the call log. The only such entry for the contact list applies to the 9650SIP phones specifically. We even changed that entry thinking it would help, but it did not work.

Is there a way to get the 9650 contact list to automatically add the 9 like the contacts list does?

Unless I miss my guess, you only have to add the standard settings at the top of 46xxsettings.txt file. My system is in the US, and these settings work for me:

Code:
############# ENHANCED LOCAL DIALING RULES ###############
##
## These settings affect certain dialing behaviors, such as
## dialing numbers from the incoming Call Log or from web
## pages
##
## Dialing Algorithm Status
## Controls whether algorithm defined by parameters in
## this section is used during certain dialing behaviors.
## 0 disables algorithm.
## 1 enables algorithm, but not for Contacts
## 2 enables algorithm, including Contacts (96xx SIP only)
## SET ENHDIALSTAT 1
##
## Country Code
## For United States the value is '1'
SET PHNCC 1
##
## Internal extension number length
## If your extension is 12345, your dial plan length is 5.
## On 46xx phones, the maximum extension length is 10.
## On 96xx phones, the maximum extension length is 13.
## This value must match the extension length set on your
## call server.
SET PHNDPLENGTH 5
##
## International access code
## For the United States, the value is 011.
SET PHNIC 011
##
## Long distance access code
SET PHNLD 1
##
## National telephone number Length
## For example, 800-555-1111 has a length of 10.
SET PHNLDLENGTH 10
##
## Outside line access code
## The number you press to make an outside call.
SET PHNOL 9

Carpe dialem! (Seize the line!)

Once you make these changes, you must reboot the phone for them to take effect. (Which may wipe out your call log.)

Thanks dufus2506, but that did not work. We changed the settings file as you suggested, it did not help. We still need to modify all our contact enteries to add the 9.

Oh... I thought this was for the call log... my mistake.

No. You're right. You have to add 9 to the entry to make it call outside. I have no idea why, it doesn't make sense to me either. Perhaps that will be changed in future firmware versions.

modify the SET PHNLD 1 to SET PHNLD "" (pair of quotes with nothing in between.
Because in the Uk we do not have separte ARS for long distance or local calls this often screws it up.
Also make sure you have the latest version of the 46xxsettings file, Nov '09, if you are using 3.1 firmware on the handsets.
I have got this feature working plenty of times, it does sometimes take a bit of messing around with the 46setting file.

If you are using the Outlook contacts import tool also check on tab 2 of the spreadsheet that you have the proper translations for ARS code (9) etc.

Everything is defaulted to USA settings.
