9611G using 3 BM12 side carts

Hello Gents,

I'm on an IP500V2 running 8.1.69 software. I'm connecting a 9611G ip phone with 3 BM12 side carts. What's happening is after about a minute or so the last 2 BM12 carts shut off, leaving only 1 BM12 on. I've verified that the other 2 are not defective by plugging them into the 9611G one by one and they function fine. I've flipped the switch in the back of the 9611G from L to H as required by Avaya. I've even installed the Comcode 700500725 power supply thinking it was a power draw issue, even though the customer is using PoE switches. We've even had them amp up the power to one of the ports before trying the power supply. No matter what we do the phone only seems to work with only 1 BM12. Everything I've googled is telling me that the 9611G CAN support 3 of the BM12 carts. What am I missing ?

1. PoE switches can only support 1 BM12 not more (officially at least )
2. you are right it should be able to handle 3 of these wonderful units but Avaya has its own little way of telling tales

I would try and replace the cord from the power supply to the phone (patch cord with 8 conductors) also be careful when upgrading the sidecars as there was a Tech Bulletin that #3 sidecar fries if you upgrade them all at once (not sure if that was BM12 or another one though) maybe you can use another power brick if you have one or try only 2 BM12's to see if that helps then open a ticket with Avaya and see if they maybe have a magic solution for it.

Much like remote extns, Avaya have real trouble making button modules work consistently with IP phones

When you use a local power supply you must turn off POE on the port hosting the 9611.
If not then these odd things can happen.

I refuse to sell 1616-I with 3 x MOD32 now, the third module always get fried happen more than once!

Any more than 2 and Soft Console is the best option, so we never sell 3 anyway

This is a bug.
You need to upgrade the module on it's own and only then connect it to the other two (also already upgraded) BM modules.

What if a mod is already fried, is there any way to bring it back to life?

Put every BM in first place once and connect them single to the 9608

Thanks for the input. This is definitely a bug. I found out that once I remove the USER button programming I had on the BM12 carts, then all of them stay on just fine. As soon as I load my 1st BM12 with USER buttons, the other 2 die out. It's the strangest and dumbest thing I've ever seen ! Thanks you, Avaya. You Rock !
