9.2 Client to access 7.2 database

I'm afraid you cannot use 9i client on a 7 database.
Oracle issued an alert (metalink note 207319.1) which is headed 'Connections from Oracle 9.2 to Oracle7 are Not Supported'
You get errors such as :
ORA-1002 Fetch out of sequence
ORA-2063 / ORA-1002 Fetch out of sequence
ORA-600 [qerrmOFBu1], [1003]
SP2-0642: SQL*Plus internal error state 2091, context 0:0:0 Unsafe to proceed
Segmentation Fault(coredump)
