I have two 7406D phones that need to be wired to a TN754B card. Is the wiring the same as a 7406+?

all 74xx series phones have the same wiring scheme, and both receive power from the system

I have the old 7303 phone in place and they use three pair wiring can I use the second and third pair and connect it to the TN754B card. That is what I did for the 7406+ phone

Yes, both phones use the same wiring as Jaymzter stated.

Assuming standard wiring from the 754B you skip the blue pair on the switch side (typically switch has c-3 connector blu/orang/grn) and only use the orange and green. On the station side, you would also use the orange and green pair. Most of the time (in my area) the station cable is on a 110 block at the switch side and a RJ45 Jack pined to T568b (the old att 258A standard) on the station side. If this is how you have it, then the cross-connect would be straight thru. I.e. orange to orange and green to green. If however your station side is on a RJ45 jack pinned 568A then you would need to swap the green and orange pair in the cross-connect. This configuration wont work with RJ11 Jacks, because they dont have enough pins. I can tell you how to wire a RJ11 cord if you need it done that way.

Probably TMI, but hey

I have wiring as you say 568b I get a sound like there is data on the line when you get dial tone.

hrmm...

Is the port set up for the 7406D? If so these are the things i would try:

Busy/rel the port

swap the cross-connect i.e. orange to green and green to orange. (if im not mistaken on pair is for voice the other is for buttons\features of the phone)

take the phone and line cord into the switch room and punch it down directly onto the switch side to verify operation

Maybe reset the Tn754b?

I just came from a company that had over 2000 7406D's those things are fool proof. My guess is its probably a cabling issue, I hate to say it coming from 10 years in the cabing biz, but that is always where the weak spot seems to be.

Hello,

This is how the wiring should be:
Code:
MDF (Definity side)
110HW pin# signal/color
3 TXT/wh-or
4 TXR/or-wh
5 PXT/wh-gn
6 PXT/gn-wh

Outlet (phone side)
RJ45 pin# color
1 wh-or
2 or-wh
3 wh-gn
6 gn-wh
This is for port one on the TN754B. Between each port there's a "blank" pair (two pins), so the next port (# two) would be on pins 9,10,11 & 12 on the MDF 110 and so on.
Also, like RTMCKEE mentioned, if this still doesn't work, check the cabling in between the MDF and the outlet for crossings, breaks, and also check the cable to the phone itself. TIP: if the (any) RJ45 cable works for ethernet, it should also work for 4 wire terminals, as both use the same wires/pins. But: if only one wire is broken, or crossed, it will fail (even if the crossing is between a logical pair, ie: TXT/TXR).

Cheers,
Nico
