Hi all
A M8 has uppped his memory by 128MB but it appears that the
computer is only showing it as 64MB !!?

His Mobo is a Intel AGP set FW82443LX which I believe
equates to a 440LX ?
Have been into the BIOS and changed the
"OS select for DRAM >64" to OS2 (from "Non-OS2")but this hasn't made any difference
Has anyone any ideas ?
Cheers all

It could be due to either defective or wrong type of memory.
The same thing can also happen if multiple memory modules are from different manufacturers.

Hi Ski
We have tried 2 types of 128MB sticksboth have the same effect !
It is in with a 32MB (original) stick
Have tried removing this and the 128 is shown as 64
With the 32 in place = 96MB

Thought they were backwards compatable ?
Am wondering if it might be the jumper settings ?
But where the 'eck do I find out the right config
Have tried Intel and they have discontinued E-Mail
support for the 440LX
The only other thing I can see on the Mobo is "Legend V"
does this mean anything ?

We have at least two customers a day who either buy PC133 that only recognises half it's size, typically 128mb strips that read as 64. or doesn't work at all.
This is a well know problem, usually due to the density of modern memory modules but not always, the most reliable fix is to try and pick up some PC100 which is much, much, more likely to read it's full size.
We have infact started buying in PC100 just to service these customers and can report much higher success rates.
Bad news is you will pay double for the older type.
Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

Right with that in mind I will get my M8 to take the memory back and see if he can swop it !
THX 4 all your help guys
