I'm posting from Central Asia. The local telco just installed a Cisco 6260 DSL Switch, and now I can no longer connect with a "US Robotics 9105 ADSL 4-Port Router" (European version of the "USR9001 SureConnect Ethernet Modem"). Other, much simpler ADSL modems work, but aren't useable in my configuration, and there is no other suitable equipment here we can quickly buy to get up and running.
I've been helping their techs sort through the problem, but they're new to this technology and don't know where to begin. It doesn't help that they don't speak English, and don't want to contact Cisco themselves (or aren't able to, or don't know that they're able to.)
They think that the problem is with the configuration of the 6260, and have a set of four profiles that they swap in-and-out in an attempt to get it working.
The symptoms are this: The USR disconnects during the PPP negotiation phase. This results in an endless cycle of connection-disconnection every few seconds. Occasionally (twice today), I'll get a connection while they're fiddling with the profiles, but they don't know what it was that got it working. The connections only last until I reset the router, then it's back to the connect/disconnect cycle.
The same USR Router has been working for six months with no problems before they switched to the 6260.
There are very few USR Routers in this part of the world, so it's difficult to do a comparision with other customers.
They've swapped ports, and moved cards around to try to isolate the problem.
Are there any known compatibility problems between the 6260 and USR ADSL routers?
What could be causing this problem, and how could it be fixed?
Are there any profile samples for USR ADSL routers?
Are there any configuration gotcha's with the USR ADSL modems or routers?
Any words of advice I can give them?
Much thanks for your help. It's much appreciated.
Mark
