We just purchased 2 new servers and are trying to MOVE older apps onto new server from a 3.12 server. WE have ~1500 programs that use old 6.10 Betrieve as data files, and do not have man power to update presently. Can I safely substitute the older Btreive 6.10 files that load in the BSTART.ncf etc..or will that destroy the Netware 6.0 install? All apps are proprietary and mostly written in COBOL. I have all workstation modules (6.10) available for clients to load.

Thank in advance

I would not try to use older Btrieve files. Your server needs them and you will destroy your server. Technically, the Btrieve that comes on Netware 6 is backward compatible and you should be able to make it work. You can continue to use them as version 6.x files without converting them. You may need to purchase the full version of Pervasive SQL and install to the server since the one that comes with it is stripped down and only allows 2 licenses.

This shouldn't be a problem, we have 6.10 files and have not had any problems. As said above though you will probably have to purchase the full Pervasive product. The only thing you need to tweak when this is installed is the bti.cfg as by default it only allocates the bare minimum of resources for btrieve.

Thanks for all info and help. We have been able to run 6.1 apps on new server (using all pervasive supplied modules!) Hurrah!!!
