I am setting up disk to disk to tape for first time. I think I have it configured correctly, but first copy to disk is slow. Only 3000kb/sec: I expected it to be much faster. All new Dell 2850's W2K3 with Disk attached via 2gb fiber. Ethernet is gige on all backup servers and clients. Any suggestions?

What values are you using for?

SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS_DISK
NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS_DISK

Just because the VERITAS documentation states a certain thing does not make it a fact and that is truth.

They are set at the default values. I've read about changing these values, but everything I have read refers to the master and media servers running on Unix. These are w2k3 boxes.

The same applies to windoes. Just be sure that when you create the file that you do not have any of those pesky .extensions like .doc .txt etc

Do you have any suggestions on settings? Backup servers are dual p4's with 4gb of ram.

Thanks that doc helps. One more quick question. I have been trying to find a doc on best practice for formatting the disk storage. Default, 16K, 32K, ect. Does it matter?

default of 4k, leave the stripe on a disk at 64k.

Lets backup here for a moment (No pun intended)

What type of disk are you backing up to?

Where is the disk located and how is it connected to the server?

What RAID emulation are you using? RAID 5, 1+0, etc...

What is the element size of the disk (Stripe size of the RAID set and each disk)
