We have an EU who uses a 5610 for conference calls. It would appear to be simplex working, eg if I am on a call to them and they put the call on speaker I cannot hear them if I talk when they are talking, or even if I breathe a little heavily!

The 5610 is not a full duplex speaker phone. I dont think any of the phones out now for the IPO are. I think the 16xx will be when it comes out.

Kwing is correct, they may state they are duplex phones in that they both send and receive in speaker mode however none of them do it at the same time, so it's a bit of a con really.

I have to agree that it's more than a con... the speakerphone quality on the 5610s is really subpar (actually worse than our 10-year old merlin with BIS-6 (?) phonhes).

If the EU really does a lot of speakerphone calls, you should sell them a real speaker phone like the Polycomm (or private labeled avaya version). Besides the polycomms are really pricy so there is a great profit opp for the BP -- sell the EU both the poly and an avaya (plus a couple of extra ports to handle both)! The speakerphone quality is really a feature, not a bug.

I agree that IP speakerphones are horrible. Give me my MLX back!!!

We have a reply from Avaya distributor saying that the Phones are not designed for both parties to speak at the same time using the speakerphone!!

I know, we are clearly mad for expecting or even wanting this clearly extremely hard to implement feature.

If you want conference capabilities then use a conferencephone !!!
There are even 4690 bin files available so who is going to try ?

Talking while you are doing something is hardly a conference, even bargain bucket mobiles can do this, why give half a feature?

According to Avaya's web site the 4600 series phones have a full-duplex speakerphone:

"Avaya 4600 IP Telephones (except the 4601 and 4602) incorporate a full duplex speakerphone with echo cancellation, directional microphone and a tuned speaker cavity to provide the highest audio quality."

Is this not the case? We use 4621SW phones and I receive complaints from the users that the speakerphone quality is poor so this may explain why.

We also use 4412D phones and the speakerphone quality seems better. Does the 4412D have a full duplex speakerphone?

Thanks.

4406, 4412, 4424 Merlin Magix phones do not have a full-duplex speakerphone. However, they do have a really good echo cancellation built-in and will work well in a small room without back ground noise and if everyone is infront of the phone. Place someone on the back side of the phone and when they speak the far end will have a tough time hearing them.

Have to use Polycom or similar - Wish Avaya would support the DCP (digital) Poly on the IPO.

We have also sold the ClearOne speakerphones and have had good reports from customers on them. I have noticed though if you accidentally plug a ClearOne into a jack setup for a digital extension it usually blows up the ClearOne.

Have also used the ClearOne speaker applicances that connecto to the handset port on digital phones (44xx) and they performed well. Haven't tried them on the 24xx, 54xx, 46xx, 56xx sets yet.

I have found that changing the compression from "Auto Select" (which uses G729a by default) to G711 dramatically changes the speaker quality for the better on IP phones.
