We are using an IP406 system which supports 5 IP phones (model 4612) at remote office locations through our VPN. From time to time, due to conditions on our VPN, a 4612 may loose its connection. After recovering, the phone will display the proper Extension Number, and require that # be pressed to accept that Extension Number. Then a password prompt appears - again requiring that # be pressed. Is there any way to avoid pressing # ??? We have the 4612's configured to ALWAYS use a specific Extension Number (did this with IP and MAC Address parameters in Manager Application). It would be ideal if the phones just defaulted to their 'last used' extension number after re-starting. Basically, once the phone is waiting for the #, it is useless until the end-user notices the display and presses #.
Thanks!

As far as I know this is not possible. The phone has to reregister. What VPN are you using? Thank you,

Hi Frank,
Our VPN is comprised of WatchGuard FireBox SOHO 6tc units in the field and a WatchGuard FireBox 1000 in the main office. We are very happy with the WatchGuard equipment and have not had any problems with it. The 'hiccups' on our VPN are caused by the 'field end' ISPs (mostly cable companies) and happen when they renew their DHCP leases. We do not have fixed IPs in the field, as these are mostly locations in employee's homes, utilizing existing cable modems & services.

Since my original post, we have updated the software in the IP406 and the 4612IP phones. Now when the network burps, instead of seeing the 'Ext # prompt', we see 'Extension In Use'. Of course, just one press of the # key makes everything AOK again. My guess is that the IP406 has not yet released the extension -- evidently the network and the phone recovered faster than the IP406. It seems that if the error recovery has come this far, why can't the phone wait a short delay period, then retry ? That's essentially what happens when we see 'Extension In Use' and press #.
Thanks . . .
