I cannot get my 3631s to see my HTTP server. I have tried using both the 8510 and my PC to serve the files, to no avail. I am NOT using DHCP, so I have hard-coded the IP address. It runs through the startup, and shows that it is trying to get the 46xxsettings file, but then gives me a bad file server message. I am certain that it is something simple, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is. Any input will be soo greatly appreciated!!

I should further mention that I have the 3631 Admin guide (from 2007). I have read it. I have put a "down" sub-directory in place. I have the 46xxsettings file in the root, everything else in the "down" directory.

I have tried HFS that I downloaded from the web. I also tried to just use the S8510.

After much pain I got this to work with IIS as the web server. A couple of tricks:

In IIS HTTP Headers create a new MIME type: Enter an extension of .* and a MIME Type of application/octet-stream

I put the entire upgrade package in the "down" folder as you did but also put a copy of 3631upgrade.txt in the root.

Set the fileserver to the web server address and it worked.

Okay, after a bit of a break I am back at this, again. It should be noted that I am not a PC/Networking person. I have no clue how to get/load IIS. I went to IIS.net, but apparently am unable to find where to download it??? I have tried downloading MV_IPtel from Support.avaya.com, but all it does is sit and spin at me. Nothing happens. I bought the USB cable, and I can put the 46xxsettings file on the phone. But I still only get "bad file server address" even though I see it pointing to my PC. I have tried setting the HTTPPORT to 8080 (the default for the HFS HTTP Software that I have running) in the 46xxsettings file. Any other ideas would be soo appreciated.
INCIDENTALLY, this came about because my 3631 phones will suddenly lose their call appearances from time to time. Only after the phone has sat idle or off for an extended period of time can you reset the phone and the buttons will return. You still have dial tone, and can make and receive calls, there's just NO buttons.
Again, any thoughts might spare my sanity.

IIS is a component of Windows Server. It can also be added to XP (I don't know about Vista or Win7).

If you don't already have an IIS web server running on your network, This may be beyond the scope of this thread but if you really want to dig in:

Basically, you need to get a web server up and running then follow the 3631 upgrade instructions as to how to place the upgrade package into the default web site with the extra steps I mentioned before.
