Hi

I have plugged in a backup server into a gbic on a 3550 cisco switch. The port becomes available (green status) but after approx 5 seconds the status turns orange. Then status then cycles approx every 30 seconds.

My initial thoughts were an issue with spanning tree/portfast or a physical loop existing. The looping status is only evident on the GBIC card.

Can anyone help me track the problem.

Thanks
Si

what are the messages comming to the console regarding the port?

yes there is more then one NIC card in the server. The first is a an onboard intel pro 100 and the second is a 64bit pci intel pro 1000. The server is linux.

I haven't managed to get back to the site to perform any debug stuff yet but will do in the next couple of days.

Thanks

Si

If the two NIC are connected to the same broadcast domain (VLAN) and aren't configured in a "Team", then you'll see the switch shutting down one of the ports.

We do have two NICs but there is definitely only one plugged in at the moment.

Thanks Si
