3500XL Password reset problems

I have been tryin to reset a cisco 3512XL switch that i bought but i cant get the recommended way to work. I unplugged the switch and then held down the mode button while i plugged it back in and held it till the number 1 port light went out and wached the out put over hyperterminal but the switch just booted as normal and im back to normal with no luck. anyone else ever had this problem? i would be thankful for any help. Thanks

Is your mode button functioning properly? For instance, when it's powered up and you press it, does it cycle through the LED's just to the right of it (UTIL, DUPLEX LEDs etc)

The process you've described has worked fine for me a in the past.

yup its all works well.. all lights are a go.
