Late last ngiht, I received a call from a property that voice mail was not working. The auto attendant answers the main telephone number but because embedded voice mail was down, calls were not being answered. I restarted the system in Maintenance using the command RESTART <CALLSERVER>.
After the system came back online, Embedded voice mail was working.

However, this afternoon, the property reported that voice mail was down again. This time, I performed a SHUTDOWN in maintenance. I had the building engineer flip the power switch off, wait 5 minutes, then turn it back on. Voice mail is working again for now. However, I'm not sure of what's causing it to go down and would like assistance.

I tried doing a back up of the system and voice mail messages in the Backup section but the system isn't letting me check the box for voice mail messages in the Backup section. Why is that?
Thanks

Sounds like something is holding the ports up in maintenance commands do a stat on the ports

STAT <location ID> reports the busy/idle status of voice mail ports.

For a 20-port voice mail system, the voice mail port IDs are:
1-4-27-1 to 1-4-27-16 and 1-4-28-1 to 1-4-28-4.

For a 30-port voice mail system, the voice mail port IDs are:
1-4-27-1 to 1-4-27-16 and 1-4-28-1 to 1-4-28-14.

For a 10-port voice mail system, the voice mail port IDs are:
1-4-27-1 to 1-4-27-10.

what version ,there was one recently that had a embedded vmail provlem during nightly maintenance

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

and due to an endless stream of MiCollab , MiCC issues
Life would be simpler If only they tested products properly before releasing them .....

No sir. I go to Backup/Restore>Backup. There the checkbox for voice mail messages is greyed out.

Voice mail is not accessible. Auto attendant is not answering inbound calls to the main number.

When it VM was available after a reboot yesterday, the voice mail messages check box was still greyed out wireman.

Nope got me beat. The ports are there. You can acces ordinary VM when its working but not when its not (VM as oppsoed to AA). Could be trouble looming with the hard disk but not sure. or just plain old corruption that will require a reinstall...sorry can't help any further. I assume you have checked all programming of VM and AA.

Thanks wireman. I failed to mention this is an AX cabinet. Not sure if that's relevant.

Could be the flash drive then that's failing....(yes it does make a difference). 4GB flash drive for VM on the AX. Not sure if there any commands to look for issues on the VM. Is there anything in the system logs that pertains to VM?

Gonna have to replace both CF cards in the system. Do the replacements need to be the exact memory size as the originals or can I use two 8GB CF cards?

Sorry don't know the answer to that. I did find this though..."For the AX controller, you cannot include voice mail messages in a system backup." which I didn't know before.

Thanks for help and the nugget about not being able to include voice mail messages in a system backup for the AX, wireman50. This morning, I had a tech onsite who swapped out both CF flash cards, loaded the software manually(change the partition to boot_install and motfcc to fixpartion in vxworks). Next he restored a back up database. All is working now.

Everyone, thanks for your help.

Well, the problem returned today. I brought Mitel in and there solution was to powercycle the iPocket used for voice mail. After powercycling it, the VM came right up. Mitel referred me to KBA Article ID # Version 13-5104-00067. Looks like I had to reboot the iPocket to seal the deal.

I failed to mention that this can also occur on the SX200 ICP. FYI
