Of note is the reference that this may well be the last free download of software and firmware. You will have to pay for releases beyond 3.1

7.3 Web Availability
On November 7th, the IP Office Release 3.1 binaries for the core platform and CD images (not DVD) of IP Office Release 3.1 applications will be available on the Avaya Support website.
IP Office Release 3.1 will be downloadable and usable free of charge however please note that it is Avaya’s intent to charge for future software releases after release 3.1 via a license key upgrade.

That will be hard to swallow. Paying for beta software. I wonder how many times clients will pay for non-working, bug ridden software? I hope you are just joking.

Shame on AVAYA
Technicall staff have to uninstall and install new versions of IP soft every month, reboot server each time, try 10 different firmwares to find tne ONE wich will able to work with customer need.
And now you'll have to pay !!!
We're based in France and ALCATEL wich has 90 % of the PBX market will enjoy to know that...

It is common policy on all the other platforms so i am not surprised and i agree the Avaya policy.
For new installations you pay more as for upgrades.
A (lets say 3.4) license will enable all older software to run and all maintenance releases up to 3.4.
So it is not a real pain in the ass is it?

try telling that to a customer who has a fault on their system caused by a bug, which is fixed in a later version - are they going to pay for it?

Where is the 3.1 Product Announcement. Cannot locate it on the partner site. If you can, send it to Matt.weinstein <at> arkhon.com

So now you really must wait for all the threads were you can see your fellow programmers have problems.
And after they find a stable Version sell this version.

I don,t have problems to pay for new features and new things.
But the version they ask money for must then be stable.

It Looks like it will become like Index

You pay for version 3.2

You are allowed all upgrade builds in 3.2 ie. 3.2(22)

In the end it might be a good idea as more pressure will be put on the developers to get the software right as soon as possible
