I have a cisco 2950 switch with a managment VLAN (499). When I boot this switch everything works fine for a while, but then it stops responding on the IP adress configured for that VLAN. The VLAN still runs through the switch since I am able to connect to switches on the "other" side of the switch. When I reboot the switch it works again, for a while...

Default Gateway on the 2950 possibly?

There is no Default gateway on the 2950. The network that it resides on is completely "flat". I have all my devices configured with a Management vlan and the same ipsubnett, but no Default GW. This should work since no router hops are requiered.

Have you looked on CCO for any bugs for the code release you are using on this . Or is there a chance you have a duplicate ip of the switch on your network somewhere , this is almost what it sounds like . Once the switch ip in the arp table times out and someone else comes on with the same address you wouldn't be able to get to it . Can you ping the address when you can't get to it ???
