I am having hard time configuring a port monitor. I want to monitor all trafic that goes out through my firewall. When I configure the port on the cat2950, the port turnes to a down state (port up, protocol down).

the command i use are

port monitor session 1 source fastethernet fa0/13 both
port monitor session 1 destination fastethernet fa0/20

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks pplewis,

I have gone through this document. However, does not apply to the 2950 even though the document says so. Port monitor function is not available from the config t menu. I have to use the above commands to monitor ports. However, as I have mentioned, soon as I give the last command, the port goes into a protocol down mode.

Thanks much.

Not knowing the 2950's current port configuration for the monitoring, let's try the following....

Configure the monitoring port with:
> spanning-tree portfast

If the port fails enter the following:
> show port monitor

> Post a copy of the response for show port monitor in your reply message response.

> Post a copy of the monitoring port configuration, as well.
