One of my offices uses an M2616 with add-on mods for the receptionist phone. do the handset and line cord ports on the M2616 have to be facing the SAME direction or the OPPOSITE direction in order for the add-on mods to work? and what's the technical term for what type of M1616 is compatible with the add-on mods? thank you very much for your help.

The AOM is on the Right side of the phone so the handset cord isn't effected. You will need a new footstand, and depending on how old the M2616 is you may also require a power supply and a 6 conducter line cord.

but don't the handset port and the line cord port have to point in a certain way for the add-on to work? which I think has something to do with whether the phone has in-line power?

The handset cord always comes out the left side of the M2616, or at least the ones I've seen do. The footstand is longer to accommadate the AOM module. I'm not sure if the modular plugs on the phone, for handset and linecord, are different.

I mean the actual port where you connect the handset and the line cord. On some M2616s, when you plug in the handset cord and the line cord they face opposite directions and on others they face the same direction. Either they both face down or on faces down and the other faces up. I'm not explaining myself correctly. I have to word my question more clearly. But I can't think of how else to describe this. I know where the cords actually get connected, but there is something to do with the direction they face. Sorry about the poor wording of my question.

I think I understand what you are asking. I would need to do some research to find out that answer. What are the NT numbers? That may be a way to tell as well. The older the set the more likely you need an external power supply.

You are referring to the tab lock on the RJ-11 and RJ-14 jack, right? On some 2616's one is on top and the other is on the bottom whereas other have both of the lock tabs on the top. (See horrible attempt below)

I do not think the Add-on module has anything to do with jacks, I think the jacks had more to do with the display functionality. I also remember something about the new/old power modules inside the phones. The older style was MUCH heavier, and the newer one used a different power processor that was intergrated into the circuit borad of the phone.

Looks good scott but isn't the RJ11 wider then the RJ14??

YES. Man you guys are tough!!! Thanks for pointing out my failings.

RJ-11 has space for up to 6 pins, where an RJ-14 can only accomidate 4 pins. (I think you already knew this, but I am bad at written retorts!)

I refuse to attempt another diagram on the grounds someone else may make fun of me and hurt my feelings.

Thanks. That was totally unnecesary, but I appreciate it all the same.

Have a great night.

srmega41, you are dead on with your drawing. that is EXACTLY what I was talking about. And I know that, in order to use an add-on mod, either the handset/line cord tab locks (thanks for teaching me that term) have to either face the SAME direction or the OPPPOSITE direction and I cannot remember which way is correct (we use M3904s here) and I have to send a replacement M2616 to a remote-site receptionist and I'm not sure which type of M2616 I need to order. You guys are the best.

coniglio,

I just checked, and here is what I found:

The NT2K model has both tab-locks facing the same direction (to the bottom of the phone), and I have one using an add-on module today.

The NTZK model has the handset tab lock facing the top of the phone while the line cord tab lock faces the bottom.

So, I would be confident in ordeing the NT2K for your needs.

Good Luck,

Scott M.

THANK YOU!! I need to get her an NT2K. I'll have to think of a clever way to remember that. thank you again very much. And keep up the artwork. Your picture spoke a thousand words.

The ntzk phone can have an add-on but you need a pwr. board and a pwr supply. The nt2k and nt9k you dont need any thing.
