Here is the situation. I have two 2600 series routers that I would like to have configured as gateways. One is only for redundancy. Both have only one ethernet port and one T1 DSU/CSU wic. Here are my questions...

1. Do I need two ethernet ports for the gateway? If so what do I need to buy to get another ethernet port on each router.

2. What configurations do I need to make to the router to have it act as a gateway on our network?

3. Are there any resources that I could read to learn more about configuring the router as a gateway?

Thank you for all your help

Hello, what is your goal? just to keep people online to the internet or are you hosting FTP sites that would have to stay online.

It will be the gateway from a corp office. We have an intranet that is used by a number of remote locations all which are on a t1.

So,

You are hosting valid services on the internet. Well I was thinking that if it was only internal people going to the internet no hosting, HSRP on the two routers would work. But since you are looking at making a highly available hosting network, setup of BGP looks to be your only way.

Are the remote locations on a internal PTP T1 system or are they hooked directly to the internet.

I am sorry if I am confusing, I am trying to belt these questions out to fast.

1. The routers are not going to have anything to do with the internet. just moving traffic either to a pix or to the intranet LAN.

2. Require redundancy which is why we have two routers. More can be added if needed.

I hope this helps a little more. Thanks for the responses

HSRP on the office side ethernet. Make sure both routers have a route to corporate, and you are set. However, if you need access from corporate back to the remote office, you'll probably have to put in two static routes (one for each isp).
