Hey fellas. Im new to the CCNA track and just got a 2501 to fool around on. Problem is the errr messages I am getting about the flash memory. I have done some research on the errors and it seems that my boot roms are too old to recognize the flash. I have posted the error message below(in the boot sequence) followed by the output of the "show flash: all" command. Please take a look at it and tell me if this is something that should be fixed or if it will work fine. I dont mind the errors as long as the router functions the same as if the flash was recognizable. Please give me any insight as to what to do about this or what causes this. Thanks!

-Chris

Yeah, like you said, those errors are because hte boot roms are old and don't recognize the flash stick. You can upgrade your boot roms very easily and can pick up a pair of the newest ones for the 2500 series routers on Ebay for about $15 - $20. Heres the version you need to look for....

System Bootstrap, Version 11.0(10c)XB2, PLATFORM SPECIFIC RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

Those are the latest release of boot roms for the 2500 series routers and should fix the problem of recognizing the flash.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for the info. So the errors wont affect the functionality of the router? Basically the boot rom cannot identify the type of flash it is but the flash works fine correct? Thanks again!

Honestly, I don't know, but by the looks of your startup screen it looks like all should be well. Your IOS
"IOS (tm) 2500 Software (C2500-JS-L), Version 12.0(7), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)"
is loading just fine, and it is around 10 MB which means that it would have to be using all of one stick of flash, and part of another. If for some reason it wasn't working then it would load into ROM IOS "(boot)". Also you wouldn't be able to load the IOS into flash because it would only detect the 8MB, not 16MB. So just by reasoning it out it should work...."should" being the operative word....Let me know if it seems to have problems...
