I have a 406 that I'm tring to get a 2420 phone to work on it. The 2420 will come up and even do a seft test but there is no dial tone and the display reades TFTP server NOT FOUND. I have a 6408 working on it fine.

There are no stupit question for me on this. I'm not much of an Avaya guy but yes it is plug into a DS port

This is because the firmware on the 2420 isn't correct for the IPO. Its looking to upgrade but you haven't set up a TFTP server (usually your VMPro or Manager PC) for it to get the firmware.

Set up Manager (the admin application) on a PC, and point the IP Office to it on the first page of the SYSTEM FORM.

Hope this helps...

If the TFTP entry is set to 0.0.0.0 then IPO will use the last IP Address of the PC with manager wich have made changes to the config.

The IP Office will only send the necessery binary files if it received a command for it, in the manager directory there are two files : fw_on.bat and fw_off.bat.
Open a DOS box and go the the manager folder, then type "fw_on.bat IP_Address" and press enter,IP_Address is the ip address of your IP Office.
Then the phone will receive the proper binaries if it is powered up. Already connected phones will only start downloading new firmware after a disconnect/reconnect.

After upgrading run the fw_off.bat like the fw_on.bat.
