I have a customer with a CS1000 4.5. Some softphones seem to crash at the end of a call or when trying to answer or transfer a call. The window says that the softphone has closed but no error. They have 3.04.0003 and are running Windows 7. Anyone seen this before?

I don't have the newer version softphone nor Windows 7 to test otherwise I could tell you right now :)

Since you are running the latest and greatest OS and softphone and an End of Life Nortel 4.5 release I am thinking it must be something to do with the Interoperability. Just for kicks do you have an XP system or can you try to run it in XP vitual mode? I am thinking Vista isn't very 'compatible' either.

Good luck trying to fix it anyway. I would be able to help if I had the 'cutting edge' stuff :)

I've done some digging, but could only find some old info that may apply below.

The IP Softphone 2050v2 has been found to experience significant impairment of the audio channel when run on a PC using the Microsoft Vista operating system.

In order to ensure clear audio when using the Softphone on a Vista machine, the following steps need to be taken:

1. From the options at the top of the 2050 client, select File, Settings.
2. From the settings list, select Audio.
Using the slidebar, increase the Quality setting to 4 or higher

Note that for the IP Softphone 2050v1.4 the same steps should be taken, but a third step is also required.

3. IP Softphone 2050v1.4 ONLY
If using an IP Softphone 2050v1.4 on a Vista PC, after setting the audio quality to 4 or higher (step 2), QoS must be turned off on the PC itself.

Use the Vista Service Manager to disable QoS on the PC.

15 November 2007: IP softphone release 2.2.264 available.
This maintenance releases delivers some minor enhancements to the IP Softphone 2050 as well as bug-fix.
This maintenance release is being provided as a no charge update to all customers who have purchased Release 2.0.228 or later.

Enhancements
IP Softphone 2050 2.2.264 provides the following enhancement:
.. “Screen Pop” on Incoming Calls or Disconnect
On a CS 1000 4.5 (or later) system, when the IP Softphone 2050 2.2.264 (or later) application is minimized to the Windows taskbar system tray, an incoming call will result in a “screen pop” showing the Active Directory Number, Calling Party Name (if available), and Calling Party Number (if available). When the “screen pop” is present, the user can click on the “Answer” icon to answer the call, the “Open” icon to maximize the IP Softphone 2050 application, or the “Close” icon to ignore the call and remove the “screen pop”.
Similarly, if the IP Softphone 2050 2.2.264 (or later) application is minimized to the Windows taskbar system tray, the disconnect of an active call will also result in a “screen pop”.
This enhancement is only applicable on CS 1000 4.5 or later systems and requires the application of PEP MPLR24248.

Quality Improvements
Maintenance Release 2.2.264 contains numerous resolved issues and closed cases. The list of resolved issues since the last maintenance release (2.1.260) is listed below.
Q01590154: Programmable keys disappear after changing theme.
Q01745388: IP Softphone 2050 running in “realtime” when call is active.
Q01302118: Line key treats call as hands-free instead of headset
With the addition of patch MPLR24100 on a CS 1000 4.5 or CS 1000 5.0 system, the user of the IP Softphone 2050 can access the “On hook default path” settings and configure the IP Softphone 2050 to use either “Handsfree enabled” or “Headset enabled”.
Q01656780: Config changes when USB connection is moved.
If the Nortel USB Headset is moved from one USB port to another on the Personal Computer, then the “Sound Devices” settings remain unchanged.
