Morning All,

Came in this morning to find out that one of my 2003 domain controllers seems to have "lost" active directory. It is no longer recognized as a domain controller on any of our other DC's.

It seems that the machine lost power in the night and now only has event viewer items from 1:30am onward.

How could this demotion have happend? and would their be any clues left behind to determine the cause of this.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Is is still a member of the domain?

Also can you logon locally to the server, is it possible someone has run DCPROMO on it?

DC's cant get demoted by itself that would be a hylarious thing if i came back on my serverroom and half of my servers got automaticaly demoted "smile your at candid camera"

Found out that someone did run DCPROMO and removed it. Thanks all for your responses.
