I have 2 new 2003 Servers and my old 2000 server. I want to let one 2003 be for SQL and the other for Term Server. Think I'm gonna keep my old 2000 box as my domain controller. My question is do I need to use the Per Device or Per User feature in Terminal Server. Also will my setup work fine with my 2000 box being the domain controller and then my new 2003 servers.. one being Term Server and one SQL server?? thanks for any help. As of right now.. all i've done is take one of the 2003 servers out of the box and I joined to my old domain and installed Terminal server, but I haven't activated it yet cause not sure whether to do per user or per device. I have like 65 computers that need to access the term server, but what I worry about is I format the Dtops a lot when we hire and fire employees. Wont this re-issue term server license everytime I do this, and if so is there a way to re gain that license??? thanks in advance :)

I would use the old 2000 box for the Term Server as your dont need to pay for term services CAL's for 2000 if the client machines are Win2k or WinXP.

my old box is just too slow to handle the term server apps. I've already purchased 70 CALs and Tserv CALS for 2003. I was gonna take the old box totally out of the loop but then I thought well maybe everything will run better if I just leave my old box as DC, and DNS server and make my new ones as TERM, and SQL. I'm up for suggestions.. What you guys think???

Probably best just to leave the old server online for the first while at least and if need be eventually take the old one offline and promote the Win2k3 to be the PDC. For the Licensing Mode Question, what kinda of CAL's hav you bought for TS, as i recall its two different types of CAL one for per user and one for per device.

And i would use Per device anyway - unless you hav a limited number of roaming users.

Great... Cause I actually purchased per DEVICE.. i'm glad you said that i was worried i bought the wrong thing... so you think i need to make my new term server a DC as well.. I was just gonnna leave my old one as the DC and just put TErm Serv on the new....... with what I have I just want it done right...hehe..

btw my old 2000 box now is doing everything.. Term, DC, DNS, and the works... basically adding two new servers what would you do?? take the old one out or just leave and join these in ??

So do I have to make this terminal Server a DC for the terminal server to work... Cause I didn't install the DC and It won't let me authenticate.

What hav type of role have you given the Win2k3 box you want to run as the terminal server??? Member server???

As of right now... I haven't even made it a controller. All I did was join it to the domain, and then I installed Term Server and Term Server Licensing Server. Thats it. Haven't even made it a DC yet. I think I do have to though to make it work as a term server..

Yeah i would make it a DC, although i dont think it needs to be.

thanks for the input Tidy... Think i'm gonna set this one up same as other then demote the other and format to 2003 then have 3 boxes and distribute after all up..

thanx
