I need to set up a laptop that connects to 2 different locations. This would be easy if they both use DHCP but only one location does. The other needs to have a static IP address. What im asking is how do I set it up so that this user can plug and play at both locations without having to change the TCP/IP settings each time he goes from place to place. Thanks!!!!!

look at your setup for email accounts. setup accounts for each and enter the ip address info for the static one.

You da MAN! cant believe I missed that LOL

Ammodog,

You are very welcome. Many have missed either the "Alternate" option of TCP/IP or have ignored the possibilities with netsh.exe scripting.

I have spent some of my "political" capital with the Microsoft folks on making sure "Longhorn" the successor to XP has a Wizard or other tool to make this chore more easily done. It now looks promising that it will be a new feature.

It is a common need, and should be easier.

Best Holiday wishes,

if both logons/email addresses are the same then bcastner's option is the way to go. however, if they are different setting up individual email accounts allows you to retrieve both and select which one to respond to using your choice of email acocunts - thru the Accounts dropdown in outlook.

i thought the alternate option only worked for the same logon info, that is why a suggested the seperate accounts.
