Fellow Geeks,

I just put together a dual Xeon box with the following hardware:

P4DC6+ motherboard
(2) 2.4 GHz Xeon Intel Processors
(2) sticks of Rambus 512 MB of RAM
(1) Seagate SCSI 16000 RPM HD
(1) 3D Prophet III Ti 500 Video card
(1) Sony CD-RW
(1) Floppy drive
(1) 475 Watt PSU

When I turned on the machine for the first time, it passed post fine. The on screen info came up and it reported 4 CPU's. Each being 2.4 GHz. There are only 2 installed. Would anyone happen to know why it would report 4? Benchmarking utility, PC Mark 2002, report 4 as well. However, Windows sees two.

Any helpful insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,
jade>:):O>

Xeon's have Hyperthreading. That may be what's reporting as 4, although that should show in windows as well.

Is it causing any trouble? Scotsdude[bravo]

Hi Scotdude,

I checked hyperthreading in the BIOS and it was disabled by default. I enabled it to see if it would do anything but no change.

I am just curious. Nothing is broken. Just curious. Just wondering if anyone out there knows cause I want to know too. :)

Thanks,
