i currently have a win2k3 server(sharing internet,dns) and a pc connected by two nics with a crossover cable.

my question is, can i keep it this way or would it make it hard to config the pix? lets say that last pc, goes through the nic on the server, then it hits the pix. what ip does it show to the pix? would the pix see the two ips or just one?

The WIN 2K Server has 2 NICs right? It can happen this way. The second NIC would connect to the PIX. Only one IP would be seen in this setup. I wouldnt do it that way but it is certainly workable.

Liek that right?

ya. the downside is i would have to have all the permissions set for the server ip, even the ones the pc is going to use right?

i was trying to avoid running a new cable.

To avoid running a new cable get a small switch (one with auto-mdx is nice) and put it near the server. Take the cable from the PC to the server and put it in the switch (if the switch is auto-mdx you can leave it as a crossover, if not, just change the end to a straight through or buy an adapter.) Then put the cable from the pix into the switch and finally add a new patch cord and connect the server to the pix.

PIX <-> switch <-> server

This avoids making new runs by using the existing cable and placing the switch at the hub of all the previous connections. This also avoids having to run RRAS on the server and makes all the boxes on the same LAN/IP scheme.
