1xportal stuck on "checking messages"

1xportal version 6.1.17.100, 2003 server r2, sp2, 2.4 ghz, 4 g ram
500 v2 ip office 6.1(5)

some of the users can access 1xp without issue, others seem to stick on "checking Messages" when they open 1xportal - screen never refreshes past that point. Any ideas? How do you turn off the voicemail access component in 1xp to troubleshoot?

Tried both IE (7.5xxx if I remember correctly) and Firefox (3.xx).
I was able to access 1xportal from a laptop with the above browsers. I could also log in as one of the users that had difficulty from their p.c. - on my laptop. Changed some security settings in IE and was able to log and get past the "checking messages" screen - first glance seems to be browser security settings. Will update when verified further with other users.

I got it on IE9... Just uninstall and downgrade to IE8 and works fine for me.
