1608 rebooting

have a 1608 at a remote site which kept rebooting, in the end asked user to muteclear## now it seems to be in a continuous reboot, they get the message of *to program but when they press phone just reboots, any ideas?

Is this system on 8.1?
If yes then upgrade to 8.1.73
This version has new firmware which solves the rebooting of these phones.

TLPeter, no its on a 8.0 release

the phone was working fine but did keep losing connection so just wanted to clear its settings and start again...doing so though seems to have made the phone inaccessible - I can only guess it no longer has any IP settings in it, so wont be communicating back to the system

Try an upgrade to 8.0.66.
That release also has the newest firmware for the 16xx phones.
Believe that there are reboot issues in the release the phones have right now.
It is worth a shot.

tlpeter - not possible, this is the issue we don't have physical access to the phone, its a across a VPN connection and as the mute clear## has been applied it's likely to have lost settings, the problem is each time the user presses * to program it doesn't take you into the settings as you'd expect, it just reboots each time

I know and i have seen that.
Then go on site and upgrade that phone only.
Or send a phone with that firmware loaded already.
I have had these reboot issues too and i could hardly get it working and it kept rebooting and rebooting.
I removed it from the network and connected to a private network to get it upgraded and all is fine now.

its in a different continent which doesn't help

at the moment its plugged onto a routers lan, would be good to somehow be able to get it back in control, having the end user do something to allow this...

would plugging it in a different network work? or is the only way of getting it working again have it on a network with an IP Office on?

If it is on DHCP then yes you can.
But if it does not work then they have to send it to you
Where is it now? Perhaps somebody can help you out?

phones in Pakistan, the value in the job doesn't make it worthwhile getting anyone else involved...even sending out a new phone would remove the majority of profit due to postage costs

this phone started off life on the local ip office lan and so has worked happily on its current firmware release, typical though as soon as its set a challenge to go work elsewhere it falls over and dies

ideally it needs a factory reset, shame these Avaya phones don't have a button, but is there no key combo perhaps on startup which wipes it clean?

A factory reset won't work either.
I have been there and done that.
You will need to get your hands on it.
But postal costs are not your problem but the customers

not if you suggested the mute clear## initially

you could try hitting the * button all the time while it reboots?
Perhaps it will go in to that mode.
Then # all to the ent and then it will day enter command.
Then you can do a clear.
