I'm back after a lengthy hiatus after TekTips decided my last name was vulgar and as a result removed my account. Anyway, a long time lurker since I am looking for opinions on digital handsets. We are at long last replacing 300 of our Merlin Magix handsets (4412s and 4406s) and I have decided I just want to get one phone for everyone. I like the idea of digital labels (we have a decent number of 2420 phones), but I'm not sure it is essential as our button layout is fairly static. My primary concern is having a phone that is easy to use for our "technology challenged" user set and provides the features that heavier phone users in our contact centre will like as well. The cost difference is not too large of a hurdle, so other than that, what say you?

1400 cheap and the quality is not that good.
The 9500 can be compared with the 9600 range.

The 1400 has paper labels and the 9500 has digital labels.

I would go for the 9504 and 9508.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I agree with tlpeter, with one caveat...

There are certain scenarios where customers might prefer a 1416 or a 1416+Bm32. That scenario would be where you want "no-touch" visibility of lots of users appearances, groups, or other "status-related" buttons.

The 9508 shows you 3 CA's + 5 other buttons, without shifting (shfiting gives you an additional 16 buttons). Adding a Bm12 gives you another 12 buttons visible, plus 12 more if you shift. So lots of buttons, but lots of shifting.

I've got customers (like taxi companies) who have hotline phones showing up on buttons (groups, like 60+ groups) and they want to press the button to answer the call. They're pretty much forced to use a 1416+Bm32's for something like that.

My big concern is our less-intelligent user set. Hate to say it that way, but if you set them in front of a 2420 phone they get very confused and for reasons I cannot explain, the confusion doesn't seem to wane after a week or so. How would one compare the ease of use with between the 1416 / 9508 and the 2420?

When people do not understand pages on a phone then i cannot imaging that those user are qualified for work at all.
My 6 year old daughter (real blond) even understands it after explaining :)
Like GB mentioned, sometimes you need the 14/1600 range.

I would chock the ease of use up to this:

1) Do you want to see ALL your buttons ALL the time? Do you have more than 8 buttons (3CA +5)

If yes, buy a 1416, +BM32(s) if necessary

If No, buy a 9508

If the customer can deal with shifting (paging), and you can put the important 'status' buttons in the first 8 viewable buttons (e.g. mobile twinning, HG enable, Night Service, etc), then use the 9508... it's not that much more expensive, it's better quality, and it's self-labelling.

That's what I would use to make the call between one or the other.

1416 with easy accessed buttons are preferred by my call center agents.
