I have a receptionist that has a 1416 model digital phone with the 32 button extra key console that is having problems. This phone is connected to a G430 gateway that's controlled by a remote S8800 running CM 5.2.1 (but the G430 does have a LSP server, but that's not in play here)...

I'll paste in her description of the problem. Can you let me know if you have seen anything like this and if so, what's the fix? We've already replaced all cords, had the jack/cable tested, replaced the phone, disconnected the 32 button model, used a different port on the digital line card....and nothing helps. Still the same problem. I have NOT tried to update the firmware since I've had mixed results with that and I was worried about turning her phone into a paperweight if the download fails. I've had that happen to me before. The phone is at FW 4 but I know there's a FW 10 available.

Here's the problems she describes:

The least intrusive problems are when the display on the phone ceases to light up. I know I will be having problems with the phone when the date, time and extension on the display stop displaying correctly. The date will show up as 95/95/95 or just as boxes.

Sometimes when I answer the phone there is just silence or it just immediately disconnects. I had just assumed they were wrong numbers. Then the other day after a couple of those I got an email from someone that had been trying to call me. Apparently those “hang-ups” had been that person. That has me concerned about the number of missed calls from customers we might be having. It is impossible to know how often this is happening, as I don’t know people aren’t getting through unless they happen to let me know.

The most frustrating is when I pick up the phone and there is loud clicking on the handset. It is so loud I can’t hear the person on the other end. That is when I have to unplug the phone to reset it. When it is like that, sometimes I have to unplug the phone 2 or 3 times before the clicking stops and it will have that problem repeatedly throughout the day.
