1408 Message button programming

I can't tell if the Message button on 1408 sets can be programmed. On some of my sites I have a voice mail service, on others voice mail pro. I'd like to always have this button to be for voice mail retrieval ... would need it to be a speed dial to the mail service toll free. Is this possible?

No it can't be programmed, but the built in VM (embedded) is better than most line providers anyway

if I understand this correctly you can have it dial *17 or go to visual voicemail from the system/voicemail tab

acss sme acis sme acss cm 5.2.1 acss cm and cmm acss aura messaging.

How do they access the voicemail service ( not the Avaya voicemail )?

you could try and change the default shortcode *17 to dial the number of their voicemail service as it uses that shortcode if not programmed for visual voice (like smokinjoe2938 said)
I never touched that shortcode but it would be worth a shot if you don't use it anyways, if your system starts behaving erratic then put it back.

Create a user and set forward unconditional to your voicemail service number, select the option to forward group calls as well.
Create a group type sequential, disable voicemail and add the above created user as a member.
In system > voicemail set the voicemail type to "Group Voicemail".
Now by pressing the message button or dialling *17 you are routed to the voicemail service
